Budget cuts- please! If KleinBloomberg would simply charge market value rent to all the charter schools located within DOE schools, (and DOE for the low cost of $1 a year provides school safety, custodial services and Food services- to name a few) we would not only have no need to make ANY budget cuts, we would be able to provide adequate and appropriate staff and resources for enough of the so-called “failing schools” to turn them around and make them viable competition for those same charter schools- without having to “skim” our students, and ignore Special Needs and ESL Learners!

BenJamin N. Cardozo High School is excessing 12-17 teachers most of them in math and science and the enrollment is going up. This budget was slashed very hard. Looks like the teachers were the first to go.

our school, Murry Bergtraum High School, is losing 3 social workers, 2 guidance counselors, 10 teachers, and 3 paraprofessionals. All of this in spite of the fact that we will still have about 2500 students in the fall. They’d never settle for this in the suburbs!

As of September 2009, I will be excessing 11 teachers. There will be no funds available for afterschool programs of any kind. We are operating on a bare bone budget.

We are cutting deans that have helped make the school safe, cutting AP calc, not replacing a retiring counselor, cancelling all of the shows we produce, reducuing senior programs by not offering fourth year in math and science. We do not have Titlte I, so this regressive tax is decimating our ability to provide high quality instruction

Once I excess 5 teachers and two para’s I am at a balanced zero budget. No money for supplies, after school programs etc. My cut was $350,000.00

We lost 13 teachers, one AP through retirement who we cannot afford to replace, four paraprofessionals, three school aides and a family worker. For a K to 8 school of about 950 students I will have two AP’s, six school aides, no dean of discipline, two familiy workers for attendance outreach, 1 school secretary for a staff of over 100. I will have NO special programs that we previously paid for such as poets for middle school, dance for elementary school. Morale is terrible and the results would appear to be devastating – all this after making significant progress over the past three years.

PS 257 is not replacing any of the teachers that are leaving which will result in larger class sizes, and will have much less money for after school programs for children. Williamsbrug, Brooklyn

Our school is being cut and losing 5 teachers as well as a librarian and math coach. Also they cut back on after school programs and will have bigger class sizes.
