Students don’t come to us with skills. We can’t possibly make up for everything they are lacking. This is a cultural/societal problem that CC will do nothing to fix.

So, who has had total control of the schools for the past ten years, and presumably failed to prepare students for King’s de facto Common Core world? That would be Mayor Accountability, wouldn’t it?

King, Cuomo, Coleman and their fellow privateers just can’t seem to wait to butter both sides of their bread, showering money on testing companies, while setting up students, teachers and schools for “failure,” closings and firings.

The gap has been that (not sure this is gramatically correct, but I’m just borrowing it) our K-12 system has been infested with politicians, lackeys, unqualified businessmen, “reformers”, opportunists, and capitalists. Their sole purpose is to divert teachers from THEIR sole purpose, to educate children. NOT to test prep them, not to data analyze them, and not to program them.
Alas, apathy and idiots rule.

“it’s clear, kids are already accountable for the Common Core”. Before the Common Core, kids were accountable to come to school to learn and to prepare themselves for the future. Accountability never stopped. So Commissioner King come and teach my class and show me how the Common Core makes the kids “accountable”.

That almost sounds like Mitt Romney logic: Students -here, today- are (present tense) accountable for standards that they will (future tense) be responsible for years from now (present tense AND learned opinion that ignores many blue collar professions).

It may be important to check in with reality for just a moment: Our students will be held to a much higher standard in their classes with Common Core. It’s going to take time for them transition into that and time for the teachers and building leaders as well.
