I joined this Board amidst much transition and knowing that there was a lot of hard work ahead. I am not crazy or obsessed with some ideological paradigm. I am simply proud and optimistic, because like me, every member of our school community is realistic about the hard work ahead but also extremely motivated. I also believe - in such a young school- with individuals from students, families and staff to my fellow colleagues on the board who are: so motivated, self-reflective, circumspective, and courageous enough respond quickly- that surely together, we must be able to cultivate these things so that our children are and will always be successful!
Thank you to those who are interested in our story and to those that wish us well. Please continue your interest and support and we will continue to work hard to earn it.

The past is the past and Fahari has learned and grown. I encourage people from Fahari's past to revisit the school and see the differences. Alternatively, talk to the students, parents and current staff and see what they say. Fahari has moved forward and everyone (especially the students and parents) have embraced it.

Does it really matter that by the end of the past school year was only 216 students (or 83% of its projected enrollment), and I understand that the current number of students presently enrolled and attending school is much higher than its authorized 261 students? Has the NYCDOE checked on that lately?

How can the school control if parents need to place their kids out of the school because of the poor economy situation that is affecting all of us in NYC, and have to move to another city or state, or even have to return to their home countries? Has the NYC DOE really analyzed in depth where those students to be retained by Fahari Academy are attending school now?

Then, better put on probation to whoever is ruling our lovely city for not doing as much as he is supposed to do to improve our city economy and letting people be unemployed or underemployed with no choice but to leave NYC!!!

I have visited Fahari Academy Charter School in many opportunities, and I can say that this year it is not even the shadow of what has been in the past!!!

All of the staff is very dedicated and working really hard to help succeed students academically, emotionally, and socially!!!

Fahari Academy Charter School is almost a brand new school with a very positive leadership focused on strategies and resources to improve teaching and student learning, with teachers who really care about their students, and employing a variety of school-wide discipline management techniques to make it a better learning environment and avoid misbehavior issues.

NYCDOE just check it out and use your rubber-stamp elsewhere!!!

So, the regulator took relatively immediate
steps, the school and the board acted immediately to change- even before
students had been in the school for four years- there seems to be progress and
support from families, the board, the newly unionized teachers, and the school
they share space with.

Hope Gotham continues to follow this story!
If they can make meaningful student achievement by renewal, I think we can
almost declare them the eighth world wonder- at least in the microcosm of NYC.

Good
luck to all in this situation and keep it moving forward!

I am someone who has watched the school through some real ups and downs over the last couple of years and told parents to pull kids out last year, based on what was happening. Have been advising them to go back for a second look this year. Amazingly different school. I am always surprised by all the negativity on this board, and how people seem to just lurk to throw stones...but guess that is why we are where we are

"... sky-high teacher and student attrition rates that has plagued the school..."

If the DOE is using those as criteria for shutting charters down, shouldn't a number of Success, Kipp and Harlem Village Acad. charter schools be shut down as well?
