Please. We know why teachers move up: More pay, less classroom time. Yay for John Huber. He's been teaching four years and now he's department chair. I'd hate to be in that department.

Teaching is made up of new experiences every class period, every day, every week, every month, and every year. It is ever-changing and ever-growing and can be a wonderful career when given solid/positive support. Years ago, I never begrudged the few who wanted to go into administration. Now, with this new business/privatization model, it has become the norm for too many TFA/Leadership Academy types.

Education needs stability and care. Currently, it is corporate-driven mess.

I agree with the Old Guy. Teaching is the best job and the one that has the most impact. Once people move up they spend their lives trying to have that much impact and fail to do much else besides be a pain in the butt to those of us doing the real work.

Is it just me? I have been teaching for close to 20 years and I can literally count on one hand the number of veteran teachers I know who have decided that, "Moving up professionally means moving out of the classroom and on to jobs in school management, consulting, policy, or academia". Real teachers TEACH. Moving up professionally means sticking it out in the classroom and becoming a better teacher through years of hard work and dedication with support from your colleagues. Moving up means you learn what works and does not work with your students. Moving up means learning from your mistakes and becoming a better teacher from those mistakes. Moving up means you teach the brothers, sisters, and eventually the children your your students after working in the same school till' retirement. I actually have to give the DOE credit for once for trying to allow teachers to do what they do best, teach! Oh well, time for me to go wash my chalkboard and ponder of how things used to be in the good ole' days.
