Zak et al,

If you haven't already, it'd be interesting for you to interview charter school students and have them compare their current school experience with their former district school experience. Same with kids on waiting lists for charters.

I'd think that would align well with your goal of amplifying the student voice.

Tips to these intelligent students.....do not align yourselves with 50can (a con agency promoting privatization and deprofessionalizing teaching) or Students for education reform.

They will use and abuse you for their purposes and it is not about students. They use flowery language that no one would disagree with....every one deserves a great teacher, great teachers should be paid well, we love puppies and kittens. This is the Rhee/Bloomberg play book and it has nothing to do with students, teaching and learning,

They do not care what your concerns are....here in my state SFER/ConnCon bused in 30-40 college students and gave them tshirts and subway sandwiches. When they stood on the state house steps they could not answer as to what they were protesting or why they were appearing as a group. Reporters were looking for statements and except for the adult handlers the students look confused. It was embarrassing.

Stick to your original ideas....you don't need them...they want to use you.
