Bulking up on hours of school does seem like a dumb illusory quick fix.
Though that negative correlation between hours of school and performance could be explained by considering that the extra hours came about from very poor performance. And the fix will not necessarily bring poor performance up to the level of high performers any time soon.
Still, I think it is no fix at all. There should be more studies that then inform education concerning
