If we follow Peter Meyer’s thought process the whole way through, none of us should eat out unless we have -not just the scores of each restaurant in New York City- but the individual scores of each and every employee of each and every restaurant in New York City. Only then can the restaurant employees be held accountable and the public at large can consider themselves safe from bad food.
Look, when smart guys have to resort to diner analogies -especially bad diner analogies with terrible (borderline dishonest) logic- I think it’s safe to say that the philosophies of the current reform movement are coming apart at the seams.
And thank goodness for that. as Meyer eluded to in his post; there has been enough damage done as it is.

That analogy is terrible. NYC has grades for schools identical to grades for restaurants. They event use the same font for the letter grades.

The analogy of teacher ratings to food ratings could be apt, if it were not for the fact that teacher ratings are based on VAM, which has no basis in science, and carries absolutely ridiculous margins of error. I don’t imagine any politician would be satisfied if we were to say, “Congratulations. You’re ahead by four points, with a 38% margin of error, and we conducted the poll using old tarot cards.”
If the food ratings are indeed as valid as the teacher ratings, they ought to be abandoned posthaste, as people eating in A-rated restaurants run a high risk of being poisoned.
