Re: Irony of new teacher licensing

Stephen Sawchuk mocks fears of "corporatization" of public education and makes it seem to as though the recent pineapple question is the worst stain on Pearson's record. I guess he forgot about the bribes Pearson gave state employees.

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/10/10/education/10winerip.html?ref=education

I think it is reasonable to fear Pearson's influence in a pilot study, especially since they have a financial interest in the teacher certification business and there is no transparency in the rating process.

P.S.

It also drives me crazy that I can't drop this comment on his article without paying $50 a year.

I love the parent who filed a FOIL request to see the state tests. There's something fishy there. Having proctored the exam, knowing how absurd some of the questions were, I think it's only fair for parents have access to a test that will determine a lot in their children's future. I hope other parents file similar requests and force the state and Pearson to release the tests.
