As a former student who received special education services from barely two years old until third grade (and as a special education teacher now), I credit early education programs (like Head Start) to an early detection on my academic and social difficulties and struggles. I was able to receive services early on which helped me transition out of receiving special education services by fourth grade.

Though, like the 120,000 children being served now, I was considered a low-income child, I started receiving services I needed in speech, OT, and PT. I couldn't imagine how my life would have been different if programs like Head Start didn't exist for children like myself growing up.

I can only hope ACS does receive the grant, if only because early education services are necessary to help close the gap poverty opens up even before birth. Best of luck, ACS.
