destroying unions generally = loss of democratic votes. Photo ID @Bruce_William_Smith:disqus
polls means about 20% of the black voters - a largely democratic bloc - don't vote democratic. Tort reform means a group (our only protection against corporate murder and rapine) of primarily democratic donors and voters is losing funds.
All GOP tactics to make this a one party country. How patriotic is this?

It seems to me that the assumption in the NYC strategy is that teachers can be bought, that money is a prime motivator for educators as it is for people on Wall Street, including lawyers.
This isn't surprising at all. Murdoch and his ilk stand to make millions, if not billions, off of public education, and teachers stand in their way. He openly bashed American teachers at the G8 Forum to the international community. It has been obvious that there has been a concerted effort by the media to publicly shame, humiliate and beat down teachers so that ed reform efforts are easier to implement. Murdoch has demonstrated to the world what kind of leader he is and how he conducts business, so there's no surprise in learning this information. I appreciate you reporting about it, though, and hope to read more behind-the-scenes stories.

Rupert Murdoch is the last of a breed, a breed he and his company will be responsible for killing in an act of mogulcide.

    The Economist agrees
that he is the last mogul and says it is time for him to go. It also
says that media need a strong News Corp. There we certainly disagree.
Autos don't need a strong GM. What media needs - and is getting - is
disruption of its overly strong institutions. The death of the mogul in
news is something to celebrate, and eulogise.

Amazing but true, the Wall Street Journal, a Murdoch paper, has greatly damaged Klein’s reputation. A February 2 story by Barbara Martinez and Robert McGinty exposed Regents tampering on a massive scale. The paper commissioned a statistical review by three economists commissioned who revealed that 5 to 10 percent of Regents passes in 2009 were failures. A Columbia professor claimed that such grade manipulation—inflating just failing scores into just passing ones—predated but remained steady throughout Klein’s years.

Naturally, Martinez and McGinty wanted to interview Klein, maybe ask him for starters what did he know about Regents cheating, when did he know it, and what did he do about it, if anything.
The perfectly executed paragraph below summed up the high stakes involved, that is, whether Klein and his numbers were fake. Klein’s response was, as we say when raising the outrage, shocking to the conscience:
“The integrity of test scores figures into the whole debate over improving school performance. In 2002, Mayor Michael Bloomberg took control of New York City schools. His new school chancellor, Joel Klein, shook things up by introducing autonomy for principals, as well as financial bonuses for performance gains, along with consequences for poor performance. Mr. Klein, who now works for News Corp., the publisher of the Journal, declined to comment for this article.”
