It’s self-evident that Dukes was not likening charter PARENTS to slave masters. Gotham Schools, that was a major lapse of judgment and you should be ashamed for not revising it.

My opinions about the rest of the story are not relevant to that media criticism.

Godd for Ms. Dukes. We have been listening to the elitist drivel of Bloomberg, Klein, Rhee, Duncan, Gates, Koch, Walton, et al for long enough. This is AMERICA, land of free speech. In the past, a true humanitarian would volunteer in the schools. These pigs are out for personal gain. Charter schools are SEGREGATIONIST ELITIST organizations open to a select few and filter their students eliminating the neediest.

Caroline — I was surprised to see your comment — that it’s not with Hazel Dukes’ language, but instead about GS headline. May I ask

Is it that you believe:

a. Bill and Melinda Gates, Mayor Bloomberg, et al are indeed slave masters?

b. While you wouldn’t use that characterization personally, you don’t find it objectionable?

c. You find Dukes’ comments offensive, but just wanted to point out your objection to the headline?

Your headline is unprofessional and inappropriate, Gotham Schools. Clearly Hazel Dukes was referring to the billionaires and powerful officials who push charter schools, not charter school parents. You need to correct, retract and apologize, and vow to be more thoughtful in the future.

If it’s true that DOE has violated its own policies and protocols to place PS234 wait listers ahead of PS130 applicants…. a full and public accounting of ALL wait list assignments is called for.

And heads should roll.
