Hey Rick Heis!! Are you listening?? You wrote …
“… When the president declares in the State of the Union, “If you want to make a difference in the life of our nation…become a teacher,” the profession is doing pretty well indeed. …”
Actually, I watched that speech too. And I remember the president saying that to every YOUNG person in America … and didn’t he say that after supporting the firing of an entire school of experienced teachers?
Well hey, at least the YOUNG people in our profession are doing pretty well, right?

I almost fell off my chair when I read that. I hope that continues.

Mustafa, I thought the same thing as you. There is something behind that article. It’s my opinion that since dictator Bloomberg is looking very vulnerable (lost his bid to get rid of LIFO,city time, snow storm) plus the fact he is a lame duck, the right is abandoning ship and looking ahead for the dictators replacement.

The Stern/Siegel mega-essay is highly recommended, though I have numerous issues with it.
Only the Post — after hyping Bloomberg for a decade now — could simultaneously slam him for being an empty suit as the “education mayor” while ribbing him for not doing enough to bust the UFT. Sheesh.
