Mr. Hallgren is speaking the truth. Today was a better day and some of us met with Dr. Lewis to discuss what happened. Dr. Lewis allowed us to talk about how she made us feel, she listened and she was very apologetic about her comments. She was very sincere to us and I wish that we could have had a sit down prior to today.

A lot of my freinds confessed that their teachers put them up to rioting. Teachers are upset because they don’t like the changes so they used us to get to the Principal. No one won this battle. We need to realize that we were used and we acted like animals. I’m watching Ny1 now and I’m embarrassed by what happened.

What happened was not a riot. Although it created a dangerous and disruptive situation, it was fairly peaceful. The intent of the students was to protest not to destroy. They did in fact not destroy things, they were disruptive, but not destructive. It was not a savage and mindless act, and therefore more of a mass protest than a riot. We need to call things by their right names.

This day is so riot day! I was not even know that student were complain about bathroom. On beginning of 5th period and wasting my time though. I was stuck at stairs with punch of students. Students are not suppose be there and screaming! I was like wtf.. This is my first time at school I ever had in my life. I should transfer other school I was thought. I hope everything going to be better.

OMG I was absent when th riot happened. I was in my house sick when I get a call from a friend who does not even go to that school sayin that ‘what’s going on. Mad people talkin about your school going crazy’ so I’m am like WHAT the fuck. I hang up and call a friend in my 3 period class. All I hear is screams a lots of voices. She told me that shes trying to get to the first floor. Some boy pushed her down the stairs tryin to get through stair case A. She told me that her neck was hurting then right in the middle of the convo the phone hangs up. Now today I didn’t see her and I have not heard from her yet hope she’s okay. Nobody was really in school today. Some people were hanging out on staircase A throwing up the Crip sign and was just looking for a fight with Hispanics. But thankfully nothin happened. It seemed like everyone was on edge today. Oh and I heard from a lot of people that the princable was hit with a banana at the back of her head. She did not deserve that and I’m sure that was not just a rumor. Well u heard this from a secondary source. Hope next week goes smooth.

To those who started the riot and think it’s funny to start trouble and get others injured, FUCK YOU. You guys have no regard for any one but yourselves. You think that you can run the fucking school and that you’re fucking awesome for causing the police to come to the school. IT’S THE FUCKING BATHROOM. half of you guys don’t even use the bathroom, all you do is fucking walk around the halls and cause shit. You guys have no idea how hard the teachers have to work and how stressful it is for them to deal with your fucking dumbasses. You guys like McDonald’s right? cause that’s where you’ll end up working if you don’t end this shit now. You have no respect for your elders, your teachers, the principal, the school staff, your parents, and most definitely yourselves. People actually try to succeed in life, but you guys are throwing all of it away because you don’t get your way. YOU THINK YOU RUN THE FUCKING SCHOOL. YOU FUCKING RETARDS. you need to realize and think about how your actions will affect others. The teachers, staff, and the principal are having a hard time trying to control the students because you guys don’t care. The school could close down and you don’t care. Underpaid teachers are going to lose their jobs and it would be your fault. You guys are not fucking little kids anymore. GROW THE FUCK UP, or you’ll end up in McDonald’s making minimum wage. You need to realize that your actions affect everyone else and that you’re not fucking god’s gift to the world. The school was better before the principal came in. She’s messing with everything in our school. She makes us sit in U shapes and then the next week she decides she doesn’t like that and she wants groups of 4 and then back to the U shapes, she’s also making teachers teach us differently, and most of our teachers teach how they think is best. I heard she canceled the senior cruise or something like that (if it’s true, canceling something like that has NOTHING to do with improving the school). She even made student government take down all the art on the bulletin boards because she didn’t like it. It’s crappy enough that we have to sign in and wait in a line for a long time to use the one solitary bathroom for 1,000 girls in one and another bathroom for 1,000 boys but it’s INSANE making no one be allowed to use the bathroom. Using the bathroom isn’t a “privilege” like they keep saying, it’s a NECESSITY. She also treats us ALL like we’re bad. She’s not respectful. I get SOME students aren’t either but that’s not a free pass to treat ALL of us like criminals. She freaks out when we question her new rules so everyone just went the last resort: a riot.

So violence was supposed to change/better the situation???? Hurting each other is going to make a difference?? If this is how these younsters think they’re going to get things done, then I’m terrified for their future. I hope the parents of the participants aren’t applauding them for it. Putting peoples lives in Danger is an act of ignorance. I don’t agree with the principals actions, but there are other ways to be heard. If these student were as eager to learn and better their future as they are in creating violence in schools, this country would be a better place.

Murry Bergtraum students couldve been a great example on how to make a difference without violence, they couldve made positive news,but instead they chose to act like beasts.

Okay, everyone STOP PULLING OUT THE RACE CARD. It is an underhanded and downright insulting tactic that will get you nowhere. I especially take offense because I was an alumni and I am Hispanic and from Flatbush. I am not an animal. And I doubt race has anything to with performance in school or the riots at all. The problem here is there is no communication that is effective enough between students, faculty, and the Board of Ed. Stop pulling the race card. It makes you look bigoted.

Good luck, Bergtraum students. I hope that you find peaceful ways to assert your rights and to use your agency that do not limit your ability to gain an education. I’m thinking a ‘sit in’ might work well. =) It’s really old fashioned, but if it worked for Ghandi, MLK, and countless others concerned with rights, it just might still work for you.
