Although many colleges and universities have submitted to the semester long online class, there’s no way online courses that are crammed in at the end of the day could possibly make up for the comprehensive coverage provided by a teacher. Also, with reading levels being as low as they are for many of our students, working independently can prove to be an enormous challenge. On the other hand, Millenials (those born between the early 80′s and early 2000′s) have an uncanny ability to sit in front of a computer and soak in content like a sponge…while also sexting, listening to the I-pod and “AIM-ing”.

Maybe Bloomberg’s right: there aren’t that many ambitious and egotistical sychophants to choose from. It’s a tricky mix.

    Dear Mayor Bloomberg,

You have your backstop! If Cathie “with an ‘ie’ ” Black is denied a waiver, and you can’t find anyone else in the world to do the job, I am willing to become the chancellor of New York City’s school system.

I don’t have any experience other than my own time spent in public schools, and I would have to vow not to give my own children in the system any preferential treatment, but I am up for the challenge if Nadlestern, Oprah, John Legend, Moskowitz, et. al. are not.

    Thank you.

  • Michael M.

I’m afraid Tim just knocked himself out of contention. Too modest.

  • Ronald

I have been a manager at a local McD’s for a number of years. I feel that I am more than qualified to. “manage” the NYC schools in case Cathie gets turned down.

  • Ellen

I still don’t believe that there isn’t a plan B (for Bloomberg?) in all of this. There is no way Mayor B would have been caught out like this if he hadn’t had a plan. He is too much of a planner to have discounted the possibility of a backlash.
