Schoolyard vows: Philissa Cramer and Benjamin Resnick

screen-shot-2010-10-12-at-51127-pmPhilissa Cramer and Benjamin Resnick were married Sunday at the Inn at Bingham School in Chapel Hill, N.C. Rabbi Andy Bachman of the Congregation Beth Elohim in Brooklyn, New York, performed the ceremony.

The inn’s grounds were once the site of a school that prepared rural boys for entrance to the state university. The inn was the headmaster’s home.

The bride, 27, helped found GothamSchools in 2008 and previously launched Insideschools’ first news blog. She graduated from Brown University where, wedding guests attest, her greatest indiscretion was leaving her oatmeal bowl in the sink for a full day before washing it. She was an editor of the Brown Daily Herald, the university’s student newspaper.

She is the daughter of Jane Gabin and Richard Cramer of Chapel Hill.

The bridegroom, 26, is a student at the Jewish Theological Seminary in Manhattan. He also graduated from Brown University. Before entering rabbinical school, the groom taught chess in the New York City public schools and worked as a chef.

The bridegroom is the son of Kenneth and Raiselle Resnick of Chicago, Illinois.

The couple met in 2005 at a speech former president Bill Clinton gave at Brown University. In 2007, they founded the Brooklyn Food Group, a “roving supper club” in Cobble Hill. A write-up in the Brooklyn Paper described the meals as “labor intensive” and “highly ambitious.” Habitues of the Resnick/Cramer residence confirm that this attitude towards dinner survived the club’s dissolution in 2009.

Immediately following their nuptials, the couple traveled to Israel, where they are living until June. The bride will continue to edit the GothamSchools community section from abroad.
