When New Action opposes a sitting UFT President they’ll be an opposition. Until then, they’re just a sideshow, the diversionary Liberal Party Ed Koch famously called “slime,” a bunch of teachers seduced by patronage gigs, trips to conventions on my dues money, free meals, and whatever else they sold out for. They were one of Ms. Weingarten’s most brilliant moves.
It’s outlandish for them to feign shock when her hand-picked successor, the one they supported just as they supported her, follows directly in her footsteps. They voted for this Mulgrew, not that Mulgrew.
What nonsense.

No Action – part of the 91% that okayed this backroom deal. With more bad things to come.

It’s mildly interesting to think of what provoked the angry anti-New Action comments: New Action opposes the new evaluation plan.
We ran in these last elections saying we support the leadership when they are right and oppose them when they are wrong.
And that is, in fact, what we do.

It’s barely interesting at all to read empty slogans and labels from those whose sole actual purpose is to enable those they’d presume to criticize.
They ran in the elections and won seats only because they had the express support and endorsement of those they now pretend to oppose. And they had to support the head of the ticket or they’d lose their jobs, their seats, and their free trips to conventions.
So that, in fact, is what they did.

I was mistaken in saying that New Action gets trips to conventions. I’d incorrectly assumed they got all the perks Unity members received. I’ve now confirmed they do not. For not opposing the Unity President, they receive only seats on the UFT Executive board and jobs.
