Wait…you mean your trailer has a sink and/or toilet?

In Texas we teachers make “the dash” between classes to the nearest facility.

Lucky kids, we can’t deny them a restroom pass (fear of reprisals from parents, etc.). They get to make the “pastoral promenade” any time nature – or disinterest, or a cell phone text meet-up – calls.

I had to threaten to call the board of health before I could get the running water in the trailer fixed. It took three years, and I never ran for CL, but I got it done.

Now, do something about the lack of security out there. The school partially solved the problem by removing me from the trailers. Maybe I am making too big a deal out of this. We were promised security a few months ago, I bet there is a guard on duty as I write this comment.

Thanks so much for your thoughtful comment. I suppose I could abandon my students, as well as the teachers I represent, ignore the 98% of city kids who are routinely neglected by this adminstration and go out and seek a position that entails more work for less pay. Since we're making helpful suggestions today, it might interest you to learn that question marks are generally reserved for interrogative statements. Had you attended my public school class, you'd know that.

Bloomberg wants to run the schools like a business. I was in business before I became a teacher, and one thing I remember clearly about it is that there was always toilet paper and soap in the bathroom.

I’m betting that if Bloomberg found himself sitting on the pot without TP or soap, head would roll.

The cleanliness is the ONLY thing I liked better about being in business than being a teacher, and it’s the very thing Mayor4Life can’t get right when he applies the model to school.

ha–that’s pretty funny, in a heartbreaking way. I don’t know if it’ll make you feel better or worse, but many DOE schools function on a totally different universe, with responsive custodians, nice furniture, and a clean environment.
