MARGIN NOTES

An education love triangle joins forces to invade Washington Post

Good will and holiday cheer all around as Michelle Rhee’s current fiance endorses her ex-husband in his quest to get a column in the newspaper Rhee spurns.

Last week, the Sacramento G.O.P. accused Rhee of helping her fiance, Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson, run “damage control” as he campaigns for reelection.

Vote Kevin Huffman for America’s Next Great Pundit

My friend Kevin Huffman works at Teach For America and is one of two finalists in the Washington Post’s “reality contest” to find America’s Next Great Pundit.  The winner will get a weekly column in the Washington Post for 13 weeks.

At a time when states are preparing to compete for $4 billion in “Race to the Top” funding for our schools, it’s critical to have someone like Kevin helping to lead the national conversation.

Please take 30 seconds to vote for Kevin now.

Since the polls are only open on the Post website until 8 pm Eastern, every vote counts.  Thanks for your support!

This is ridiculous. Mayor Johnson asked friends to vote for Kevin Huffman on Facebook. The text is on Facebook for all to see.

Kevin Johnson: Kevin is a prominent advocate for education. DC’s pubic education system is under a microscope because it’s in our nation’s capital. Having a weekly column in the Washington Post will enable Kevin to bring needed attention to DC’s education woes as well as the challenges cities across the country face.

Eva: Today Mayor Johnson has made an FB post urging us to vote for Kevin Huffman who works for his fiances “non profit” and lives in DC for Americas Great Pundit?

Mayor Johnsons fiance Michelle Rhees Teach for America Non Profit received $4.3 Billion in American Reinvestment and Recovery Act money…her organization will no doubt profit in some way should Kevin Huffman receive this award.

I may be totally off base here — but in my opinion, this has nothing to do with Sacramento. More important it could be viewed as a conflict of interest or at the very least, inappropriate for Mayor Johnson to involve himself.

What’s the old line about no room for three heads on one pillow?

    There’s Something About M. Rhee.

I am a fan of KJ — the basketball player. (We overlapped at Cal.) I am NOT a fan of stuffing the public opinion box, treating education policy like some high school version of “So You Think You Can Advance”, where the best dancers usually lose to the most popular.

    Gobble Gobble.

    It’s Turkey Trot time.

This is sadly getting to be about personal careers, power, and money. Oh, there’s kids involved? Silly me.

I just wonder whether Kevin Huffman is enough of a “friend” of Kevin Johnson’s to let his two daughters, Starr 9 and Olivia 6, stick around Johnson, alone. Actually it looks like Starr is the one who might be at risk sooner than Olivia, given Johnson’s predilections. Given what Johnson is alleged to have done to these young women in Sacramento who worked for him, I sure as hell wouldn’t let him hang around my daughters, even with Michelle there. She’s evidently the one who helped Johnson cover up the molestations — “damage control.” Bet good ole Huffman never thought Michelle would run through him and sleep her way up through the kids — Sacramento or Washington, DC — take your pick….
