It certainly would've been nice to hear from some teachers, but it's important that word gets out. Some teachers were particularly discouraged by the News 4 piece, which seemed to simply copy the Times story and paint a smiley face on it. I was encouraged, though.

It's true that our school runs well for the most part, so far. But the UFT safety inspectors found the overcrowding can pose serious hazards, particularly during H1N1 season. And if there were, God forbid, a fire or something, the risks are simply unacceptable. This is not what you do when you genuinely wish to put "Children First."

Unfortunately, the NYTimes ran a one-sided article about the conditions of your school. There was no mention of the trailers or their poor conditions. Or the fact teachers don't have any space to conduct tutoring. And all those early morning lunch hours!!!!! But they also did not take the time to get a comment from one teacher.

Having a parent co-write this article is a great idea because many readers here (and we know who they are) look for any excuse to put down a teachers POV.

Off topic: I found it very interesting that the mayor and chancellor buried a report they conducted proving that public schools did better than charters.
