At least principals have the freedom to go out and move their cars. An assistant principal at my school routinely ducks out of meetings so she can go move her car — but I can’t exactly tell my second graders, “Be right back, it’s street cleaning time!”

If these placards are indeed a perk, I wonder if these principals are paying taxes on their monetary value. What’s that? No? Oh, perhaps the IRS would be interested.

When it comes to issues between the DoE and the principals’ union, haughtiness begets arrogance and vice-versa. The principals’ placard should read, “I am principal; watch me violate directives.”

I hope they get their permits if it’s in their contract. I also hope Bloomberg sues them back for violating the terms of the hiring freeze.
