Michael Barbaro reports on the choice words Mayor Bloomberg had for the state Senate, which has adjourned for the summer without restoring mayoral control, on his weekly radio show today:

A fuming Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg said that state troopers should “drag” senators back to Albany — by force, if necessary – if they leave for the summer without voting on a bill to preserve his control of New York City’s schools.

During his weekly radio show, an incredulous Mr. Bloomberg – who seemed to question the intelligence of individual senators by name – said that those holding up the legislation “want to ruin the schools.”

“You wonder what goes through their heads,” he said, adding that the time for negotiations over mayoral control had passed. “It’s over. It’s stopped. You just can’t do that.”

Liz Benjamin has more:

“This is what he should do,” Bloomberg said of Paterson, noting that he has been “defending” the governor throughout the Senate stalemate. “Giving them the summer off is as we say in Gallic, ‘Meshugenah’”.

This story gets better all the time. The one about Mr. Bloomberg’s “term-perment,” I mean. Maybe El Mayor missed the news coverage postulating that he’s been leaning a bit tooo hard.

Is Mr. Bloomberg willing to drag the Assembly back to Albany so that the two houses can iron out something mutually agreeable? And by “mutually,” I mean between the Assembly and Senate, NOT between the Senate and the Mayor. Just as the New York State constitution and We The People had in mind.

Not to mention, it’s the Governor who signs bills into law — not the Mayor. Previous media coverage of the Mayor’s understanding did not make this clear.

Re “meshugenah”: Irony sure isn’t taking the summer off.

(Re follow-through: Hands higher, hips forward. It’s golf, not baseball.)

It’s not mayoral control, it’s school governance we’re talking about. Someone has to remember that! And as far as parents “running” the schools or, heaven forbid, setting policy, where does the man think all of this power comes from if not from the governed. It’s “We, the people,” not “Me the mayor” Richelieu would be in seventh heaven! Ah, but look at what happened to Louis and Marie Antoinette. There’s a warning for ya……..
