I am a retired elementary school teacher. Has anyone noticed or commented on the change in the very nature, as well as the the frequency, of the testing programs that show such great improvement?

For the past several years (6-8?)there has been a written response component to all tests including math. Although there are criteria for marking the tests, large numbers of teachers are needed to mark these tests and the reactions to the written responses are extremely variable and highly subjective, often reflecting personal biases, and a great deal of pressure to give a high(er) score. Check it out reporters and journalists!

After seven years of Mayoral Control...I'm ready to give chaos a try. At least we'll find out what cream, politically and educationally, rises to the top. We've tried the money-fed-corruption way. It was bad for children, parents, and teachers, yet good for oligarchs, unaccountable charter heads, and test companies. Let's end Mayoral Control and give honesty a try.

I think the headline should be "Bloomberg Threatens Litigation if Mayoral Control Lapses" since his clear implication is that City lawyers would challenge the legality of the reconstituted Board of Education. I can think of no other likely plaintiff. Such tactic would be an attempt by the Mayor to make his prediction of chaos self-fulfilling, though I believe a court would summarily dismiss any lawsuit since the statute is clear that the Board of Ed would be the legitimate governing body of the City School District.

Keep up the fight- tell your senators to support Sampson as he brings down the pillars of the corrupt temple (Tweed)... I am proud of you for speaking up for DEMOCRACY- Let there be a parent majority -it is after all our children that schools educate.

At the rally today, I noticed that P.S. 57 advertises itself as an "oasis of excellence in East Harlem." Does that mean that every other school in the vicinity is just mediocre, or worse? Why do we only have an oasis of excellence bringing relief to a limited number of students? Why isn't every school excellent after 7 years of mayoral control. Why isn't the mayor held accountable for the mediocre performance of other schools in East Harlem?

If Bloomberg's opinions are so popular with the city, why did he exit the back door and not face the protesters in the front of the school?

The press conference was clandestine, spur-of-the-moment, and for invited guests only. That says it all.

If New Yorkers go along with this stunt, they're not doing their homework on this guy and all his collaborators - which include the UFT/Unity management, the city council members who paved the way for a third term against the will of the people (in 2 referendums, no less), the governor, and whomever this billionaire mayor has paid off to smooth his way.

How corrupt does it have to get before New Yorkers wake up and see his serving corporate interests and not theirs?
