Nitpicking: The study on charter-teacher turnover probably does not report that a charter-school teacher is 200+% “more likely” to leave. I’d bet that it’s the odds ratio that’s 200+%. Odds are related to probability but are not identical, and to avoid trying to figure out how to squeeze equations into this comment, I’ll just suggest that people ask their nearest Atlantic City afficionado what the difference is, as well as how to place side bets on craps.

Maybe the problem is that too FEW teachers leave the regular public schools. Perhaps the optimal turnover rate for retention of the best teachers and turnover of the weakest is closer to the charter turnover figure?
