She taught at one of the schools (Lucy Flower Career Academy, near the Garfield Park Conservatory) where Stiles had filmed "Save the Last Dance" a year or two earlier; some of the students were extras and I definitely recognized places in the school in the movie (gym, cafeteria, etc.). I wonder if her experience filming in a school in one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in Chicago inspired Stiles to get passionate about school reform.
