Smith, I talked to Andy Jacob at DOE. He says that Acuity was down at the same time last school year.

Wait, I just realized that post was from the recent break. Did they shut it down a year ago, too or was it just not running well then?

Thanks, Elizabeth. I remember when that happened - I had a junior-high ELA class last year and assigned them some practice for homework over the break and then got a bunch of email from parents and complaints from students when they returned. When I tried to log on for my son, it said I was missing some plug-ins, but I couldn't figure out what they were.

Smith,
Re Acuity not being available, see this post: http://gothamschools.org/2008/12/18/a-complaint-from-bed-stuy-not-enough-access-to-test-system/

Excerpt:
North’s argument is that since the statewide English exam is scheduled for next month, the holiday break should be a natural time for parents to help students prepare for the test, which can determine whether a child is promoted to the next grade. But North says family prep time will be hampered because Acuity is scheduled to shut down over the holidays, from December 28th to January 4th.

The current Special Ed tracking system is called CAP, and is unwieldy and causes endless budget problems. An ATS Report actually lists kids listed on ATS, but not on CAP and visa versa ... if a principal is not constantly vigilent he can easily end up in fiscal troubles ... however ... is now the time? Where do these dollars come from? Are they capital or operating dollars? I would hate to think that these dollars are coming out of classrooms? Someone should raise the issue, ad be real, real persistent ...

I tried to log onto Acutiy the other day so my son could practice for the ELA. We couldn't get on.
