What a well articulated explanation of one of the most common teaching complaints. I had a double-prep today. I spent the whole time in a meeting and when I left all I could say was, "I want those two hours of my life back." It's rare that I have a prep where I'm actually able to plan, and my common planning periods with grade level peers are never used for common planning. Maybe I'll anonymously drop this essay in my AP's box.

You get echos of the class size vs. teacher quality argument here -- in both cases quality vs. quantity. Which one a person would prefer to talk about (or implement) says a lot about where they're coming from and how they look at the world.
