P.S. A cheer for all those principals who don't enforce circular six. It's so hard to get anything done when you lose that free period. Yesterday I spent 40 minutes trying to get various TV's and DVD players to work and 20 minutes in the deans' office dealing with a recurring cell phone/ipod problem. I never have enough free time to do all the little things I need to do.

As I've said before, I don't need a raise, I need an assistant. Teacher turnover is high because the job because it's too hard. Klein doesn't get it. I don't think Weingarten does either. They negotiated more pay for more work and the attrition rate went even higher.

Running a classroom is like managing a small corporation. Teachers should have secretarial services available just like the principal has. The idea of a secretary for the teaching staff to handle a lot of the scut work for teachers is something that should exist. The "reform" movement in education is focused on getting rid of teachers rather than supporting teachers so they can function at the highest level possible.
