It was supposed to be done to hold the schools accountable, but the reality is that the children are being held accountable because the teachers do nothing but teach to the test. They are so obsessed with the testing, it is borderline ridiculous. In Florida this standardized testing is doing damage to our children in such a way that it is really unfair to the children and unfair to the teachers. My daughter in the last 9-week marking period received a 3.5 GPA and received A Honor Roll, but it seems all her hard work in her classes is all for naught because her FCAT scores are not up to par. She has been placed in an IEP since the 3rd grade, and gets great grades but they do not put her in a regular class, she is in the ESE program and it seems there are so many kids who are in this program who definitely don't need to be. She is in the 10th grade now, and not only does she have to take the FACT, but if she doesn't move up a level in the FCAT in math and reading she will have to take it again in 11th grade, and they have stated to me that the ACT and the SAT will be mandatory for students in ESE...I have been having it out with the school over this....that she is being kept in these classes because the school wants the funding...I say BS!! I want these testing tuff to be made obsolete for they aren't doung what was intended. In fact they are being abused. My sons who are adults right now never had this much testing and they are doing just fine Mandatory standardized testing should be done like it was always done...3rd, 8th and 10th grades and that was it!!!
