Education-only presidential (advisers) debate tonight

Lecterns emblazoned with the faces of presidential candidates Barack Obama and John McCain will presumably take center stage tonight at Teachers College’s education debate, according to this flier emailed yesterday to all Teachers College alums.

The debate, which will be broadcast live online here and will be available on iTunes tomorrow, features Linda Darling-Hammond, a Stanford professor who heads the Obama campaign’s education team, squaring off against Lisa Graham Keegan, the former Arizona state superintendent who is McCain’s senior education adviser.

Although education did get some play in the candidates’ final debate last week, the issue has been largely absent from the campaign season, despite some advocates’ efforts to make it prominent. Read our summaries of Obama‘s and McCain‘s education platforms before tonight’s debate.
